November 2025 Breakfast Meeting

High Performance Building Envelopes
November 13, 2025 | By Bob Rowlings

High Performance Building Envelopes

Speakers: Hannah Cameron, Project Manager & Technical Lead, and Emma Sampson Project Manager, WSP Atlantic Building Sciences team

This presentation will explore how building envelope consultants bridge the gap between performance objectives and practical specifications, ensuring design intent translates into durable, energy-efficient, and comfortable buildings. Drawing on WSP Building Sciences' experience, it will highlight strategies for applying building science principles to manage heat, air, and moisture, and approaches for high performance new development and deep energy retrofits that advance sustainability goals. The discussion will also touch on performance standards and certifications, emphasizing how early collaboration among project teams and specifiers reduces risk and improves outcomes.

Emma Sampson is a Project Manager with the WSP Atlantic Building Sciences team.  She has led envelope commissioning projects for LEED and Green Globes certification, and regularly directs and performs air leakage, water leakage, impedance scanning, and thermographic scans for functional performance testing.  In addition to commissioning, Emma frequently works with heritage buildings, and other existing structures.  She is a member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals and is a Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Professional.

Hannah Cameron is a Project Manager and Technical Lead with the WSP Atlantic Building Sciences team, specializing in building physics and façade performance for new development and retrofit projects. Hannah specializes in modelling both thermal performance of the enclosure from individual details to full-building thermal bridging effects, and daylighting and glare conditions. She focuses on developing and using parametric tools and techniques to optimize building envelope performance and occupant comfort.
